Aldi Recalls Pet Advent Calendars Over Choking Hazard, FDA Says

Shopping at Aldi is a daily task for millions of people in the United States. After all, the discount supermarket business currently operates more than 2,100 stores in 37 states. But if you’ve recently purchased items from the grocer, you might want to double-check your pantry: Aldi just announced it’s recalling a product it sells. Read on to see what’s been pulled from the shelves and what you should do if you bought it.

On January 4, the Food & Drug Administration (FDA) announced that Pet Brands Products had voluntarily recalled its Pure Being Cat Advent Calendars and Pure Being Dog Advent calendars sold in Aldi stores.

The affected items were sold in 5.15 ounce boxes with UPCs 4099100267754 and 4099100267747 for cats and dogs, respectively. The notice states that no other Aldi products are affected by the recall.

According to the FDA notice, the the products in question have been recalled “out of an abundance of caution” when a potential choking hazard has been discovered.

“After receiving a small number of customer complaints and talking to the supplier, Aldi immediately removed the affected products from stores,” the company wrote.

If you purchased any of the recalled calendars, the company urges you to stop using them and dispose of them immediately. Aldi is also offering a full refund to all customers who return the product to the store where they purchased it.

In its notice, Aldi says it “sincerely regrets any inconvenience and concern this voluntary recall may cause.” The company urges all customers with questions about the affected products to contact the Pet Brands Products customer service hotline at 866-396-3647 for further information.
