Civic calendar | Rio Dell council to swear in new police chief – Times-Standard

Editor’s Note: The following is a list of board, commission, and council meetings scheduled for next week in Humboldt County.

Arcata Town Hall

When: First and third Wednesday of each month at 6 p.m.

Where: City Council Chambers: 736 F St, Arcata. The meeting can be viewed on the city’s website or Access Humboldt channels.

• In a closed session at 5:30 pm, council will discuss the appointment of people to the various municipal committees. Later, during the regular meeting, the nominations will be named.

• During the regular meeting, the council will consider the approval of the policy for the use of the town’s military equipment.

• Council will consider approving a $3.3 million contract with Mercer Fraser to build a storage tank.

• Council will discuss a resolution on a home inspection program.

Arcata Planning Commission

When: Special meeting Thursday at 4 p.m.

Where: City Council Chambers: 736 F St, Arcata. The meeting can be viewed on the city’s website or Access Humboldt channels.

• Planners will discuss the design and community benefits of the Gateway Project.

Eureka City Council

When: First and third Tuesdays of the month at 6 p.m.

Where: Eureka City Council Chambers, 531 K Street, Eureka

• The August 2 meeting is cancelled.

Fortuna City Council

When: First and third Monday of each month at 6 p.m.

Where: City Hall Council Chamber 621 11th Street, Fortuna

• Council will consider changes to contracts with the Chief of Police and City Manager.

• Council will consider amendments to the municipal code regarding lot splits.

• The Board will receive a report from the General Manager.

Humboldt County Board of Supervisors

When: Every Tuesday except the fifth Tuesday of the month at 9 a.m.

Where: Supervisors’ Rooms, 825 Fifth St., Eureka

• The August 2 meeting is cancelled.

Humboldt County Human Rights Commission

When: First Thursday of the month at 5:30 p.m.

Where: Humboldt County Courthouse, 825 Fifth St., Room 1A

• Commissioners will hear from Arcata Police Chief Brian Ahearn and a representative from Centro del Pueblo.

• Stewards will discuss rule changes.

• Commissioners will consider funding the Human Trafficking Fund.

Humboldt County Planning Commission

When: First Thursday of the month at 6 p.m.

• Planners will hold a public hearing for Nordic Aquafarms’ development permit application.

• Planners will have a discussion on cannabis irrigation.

McKinleyville Community Service District

When: First Wednesday of the month at 7 p.m.

• The board will conduct its biennial review of the conflict of interest code.

• Council will discuss a potential contract with the Humboldt Bay Municipal Water District for a water extension at the Trinidad Rancheria.

• Council will discuss its policy on the naming of properties in the district.

• The Board will discuss annual member self-assessments.

• The Board will receive reports from various community committees.

Rio Dell City Council

When: First and third Tuesdays of each month at 6:30 p.m.

Where: Rio Dell City Hall Council Chamber, 675 Wildwood Ave., Rio Dell. The meeting can also be viewed on the Access Humboldt channels.

• In camera, council will discuss the employment of the clerk, assistant clerk and director of finance.

• At the regular meeting, the board will consider whether to extend hybrid meetings as part of the COVID-19 response.

• The council will swear in the new Chief of Police, Greg Allen. A reception will be held after the meeting so that the community can talk to the new leader.
