Community Calendar: Military Service Academy Day, Cloquet River Run and More – Cloquet Pine Journal

Military Service Academy Day for Students, 6:30-8:30 p.m., Proctor High School Auditorium, 131 9th Ave, Door #5, Duluth. Rep. Pete Stauber, R-Hermantown, invites students and their parents to attend the annual Military Service Academy Day. The event is designed to familiarize students who live in the 8th Congressional District with the application and nomination process for applying to each of the U.S. Service Academies.

15th Annual Cloquet River Race, 9 a.m., Churchill Elementary, 515 Granite Street, Cloquet. The 15th Annual 1 Mile 5K Run/Walk will be held with all proceeds going to health related equipment and programs, as well as technology purchases at Churchill Elementary. Forestry Center 5K Run/Walk, 5 p.m., Cloquet Forestry Centre, 175 University Road, Cloquet. The free event begins with registration at 5 p.m., followed by the race at 5:30 p.m. A bonfire, s’mores and hot beverages will be available after the race.

Finlandia Northland Foundation Annual Meeting, 6 p.m., Grace Lutheran Church, 5454 Miller Trunk Highway, Hermantown. Following the business meeting, Mark Munger will give a presentation entitled “The Importance of Ethnic Groups for Artists, Writers and Musicians”. Finlandia Foundation Northland is the Duluth area chapter of Finlandia Foundation National.

Chair Personal Care, Chair Yoga For All, 11 a.m. to 11:45 a.m., Cloquet Public Library. Carolyn Ripp will lead the weekly chair yoga classes for all. Chair yoga can increase flexibility, improve core strength and balance, reduce stress, relieve pain and more. The practice can be helpful for people of all ages, including those who work at a desk or tend to sit still for long periods of time. Participants are requested to wear comfortable clothing. No prior experience is necessary.

Technology & Coffee, 9-11 a.m., Chickadee Coffeehouse & Deli, 3691 Alan Syverson Dr., Barnum. Staff from Barnum Community Education and RTS’ Nathan Rimolde will be on hand to help people get their technical questions answered. They can help you with smartphones, Nooks, Kindles, iPads, laptops, social media, Bluetooth and more. Coffee and tea will be available.

spaghetti dinner, 4:30-7 p.m., Emmanuel Lutheran Church, 3756 Fair St., Barnum. Post 415 and American Legion Auxiliary Peterson Westerberg host a spaghetti dinner. Cost is $10 for adults; $8 for seniors over 62; $7 for children 6 to 12 years old; and children 5 and under are free. Proceeds will go to Boys’ and Girls’ State Nominees and Barnum High School Scholarships.

The art of book folding, 5.45-7.15 p.m., Cloquet Public Library. The Cloquet Public Library is hosting a session on book folding with Emily Blomberg. Aimed at adults and teens, the program will begin with a tutorial, then participants can choose from two design options and work at their own pace. Those unable to complete during the program can take the book and model home and complete it when they can. All supplies will be provided. Queen of Peace Catholic Church Fall Festival, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., 102 4th Street, Cloquet. Free entry to the supervised children’s zone with inflatable games, money and a small raffle, pastries, crafts and a market and a coffee in the morning from 9 am to 1 pm; bingo will take place from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at a cost of $20 per person. Food trucks will be available from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Mass will be celebrated at 5 p.m.

Paranormal Minnesota: Tales of Ghosts, UFOs, Mysterious Creatures with Chad Lewis, 10:30 a.m., Cloquet Municipal Library. The Cloquet Public Library hosts a free presentation by Chad Lewis which is an odd combination of bizarre paranormal topics spanning the entire spectrum of Minnesota paranormal activity.

Gala Roses and Pearls, 4 p.m., Memorial Community Hospital, Cloquet. The CMH will celebrate the 30th anniversary of its annual fundraising gala. Doors open at 4 p.m. for a social hour and silent auction. A dinner, live entertainment and auction will take place from 5-9 p.m. The cost to attend is $90 per person for those who register after September 30 or $95 per person for those who register online after that date.

Queen of Peace Catholic Church Fall Festival, 10 a.m. to noon, 102 4th St., Cloquet. Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m., followed by a pancake breakfast at 11 a.m. Draw winners will be announced at noon.

A place of nesting, second and fourth Tuesdays of the month from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Community Memorial Hospital/Raiter Family Clinic hosts the free group for new moms, no matter where their baby was born.
