The Ministry of Basic Education has published the 2022 school calendar.
According to the calendar, the start date of the 2022 school year is set for Wednesday January 12 and ends on Wednesday December 14.
The details were published in the official government gazette on Friday, May 28, 2021, signed by Minister of Basic Education, Angie Motshekga.
Below, we’ve included the dates of the school terms as well as all vacations in one handy print so you can get a head start on planning your next family vacation.
Keep in mind that these are the public school term dates, as private schools set their own term dates and differ significantly.

Monday March 21: Human rights day

Tuesday, April 5: Schools open for term 2
From Friday April 15 to Monday April 18: Easter week end
Wednesday April 27: Freedom day
Sunday May 1: Workers day

The 2022 school holidays in brief:
January 2022 holiday:
Schools open on Wednesday January 12, 2022. Teachers start on Monday January 10.
March / April 2022 holiday:
Schools close Thursday March 17th and reopen Tuesday April 5th.
June / July holiday 2022:
Schools close on Friday June 24 and reopen on Tuesday July 19.
October 2022 holiday:
Schools close on Friday September 30 and reopen on Tuesday October 11.
December 2022 holiday:
Schools close on Wednesday 12 December.
