The 54th Legislative Budget Office (LBO) has released the calendar of events for the 2022 Budget hearings with ministries and agencies. The revenue component of the budget is in the spotlight.
According to a press release from the Press and Public Affairs Office of the House of Representatives, the budget hearing opens on Wednesday, November 24, 2021 at 10:00 a.m., with planning from the Ministry of Finance and Development as well as the Authority Liberia’s tax authorities making the decision appear before the House of Representatives Ways, Means, and Finances Committee.
The second day, Thursday, November 25, 2021, will bring together five Agencies. These include the Liberia Petrole Refining Corporation (LPRC), the National Port Authority (NPA), the Liberia Maritime Authority (LMA), the Liberia Telecommunication Authority (LTA) and the Liberia Fisheries and Aqua-culture Authority (NAFAA).
Third day, Friday, November 26, 2021, five more government agencies are expected to appear. These are the National Road Funds, the Ministry of Public Works (MPW), the Forestry Development Authority (FDA), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) and the Ministry of Transport.
The fourth day, Tuesday, November 30, 2021, will bring together the Ministry of Labor (MOL), the Ministry of Mines and Energy, the Liberia Immigration Service (LIS), the Liberia National Police (LNP) and the National Fire Service.
Fifth day, Wednesday December 1, 2021; the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, the Liberia Business Register, the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Welfare, the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications, and the Ministry of the Interior.
Sixth day, Thursday, December 2, 2021, the departments to appear are; the Ministry of Health (MOH), John F. Kennedy Memorial Medical Center (JFK), Liberia Medical and Health Products Regulatory Authority, Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and power judicial.
The seventh day, Friday December 3, 2021, will bring committee members face to face with leaders from Roberts International Airport (RIA), National Housing Authority (NHA), National Lottery Authority (NLT), the National Transit Authority (NTA), Ministry of Youth and Sports (MYS) and National Documentation and Archives Center.
Seventh day, Monday December 6, 2021, the commission will complete its duty of the revenue component of the draft national budget following the pending and rescheduled hearings and the finalization of revenue figures.
The press office statement citing the LBO stressed that all presentations will be led by school and team leaders and that the sector head of the ministry will remain present for the presentation by members of the sector.
During this time, institutions not mentioned in the budget will be encouraged to submit a budget request while others not present will submit a presentation and meet with the subcommittee as appropriate.
According to the statement, any agency that does not appear at the budget hearings will benefit from a budget reduction of no more than 10% of lines, excluding composition, and all presentations must be submitted at least three days before the hearing.
